Legends in Concert debuts in Francistown

South Africa’s ‘Kwaito’ legends, Trompies are coming to Francistown.

The revered group founded in 1995 in the Soweto Township will headline the first Legend in a Concert show in Francistown on March, 25th at Francistown Club.

Founded six years ago by musician turned promoter Lecco Kenosi, Legends in Concert has been a successful concept that has allowed many to be nostalgic, going down memory lane with some of yesteryear stars.

Over the years, Kenosi has hosted concerts headlined by artists such as Yvonne Chakachaka, Mdu, Doc Shebeleza, Alaska, Kabelo, Trompies, Brown Sugar, Wizards and Unik Attractions.

From the above list, Trompies seem to be the fans favourite as they’ve been headliners on more than two occasions.

“As you know this show has never been hosted in the northern part of Botswana. Following feedback from our supporters we finally decided to bring these legends to Francistown,” said Kenosi in an interview with The Voice.

The promoter said there has been an outcry from music lovers who demanded the concert in Francistown.

“So, we’re here by popular demand,” he said.

According to Kenosi, the concert will be the first of many, as they intend to make Francistown their second home, and Letlhakane their third home.

“The concert will be on Friday here, and on Saturday Trompies will be performing in Letlhakane,” Kenosi revealed to The Voice.

The group will share the stage with some of the best Francistown based DJs.

These include Cue, Colastraw and KUD. More DJs could be added to the line-up before the 25th.

Tickets will be available in all Liquoramas this week and sell for P150 (single), P250 (double) or P200 at the gate.

Famous for their vernacular raps and panstula dance, Trompies were founded by music graduates Mandla ‘Spikiri’ Mofokeng, Zynne ‘Mahoota’ Sibika, Eugene ‘Donald Duck’ Mthethwa, Jairus ‘Jakarumba’ Nkwe and the late Emmanuel ‘Mjokes’ Matsane.

The crew members grew up together in Soweto and as soon as they completed their music studies in college, decided to form a band.

They went of to impact the South African music industry with some of the best albums that include ‘Sigiya Ngengoma’, ‘Shosholoza’, ‘Mapantsula’ and ‘Delicious’.
