“I’m challenging Francistowners to stay true to their recipes and show the world what they can do. If it’s dobi or thopi, it has to be the real thing,” he said.

“Francistown should lead in cultural diversification, and this is what the competition will be about,” Masala said. The BCA president is however yet to announce dates.

SUNDAY SOCCER TAKE-OVER

While thousands travelled to the south of the country for the FNB Grand Prix, Soul Fill-up and Khawa Dune challenge, the second city was at it’s boring worst during the Labor Day holidays.

The saving grace for Francistown was social football, which has been attracting a huge following lately.

The FNB sponsored tournament at Waterhole was perhaps the biggest football event outside of the Botswana Football Association (BFA) structures this city has ever hosted. Social football is no longer only a threat to mainstream football, but to the night life as we’ve known it.

Now with corporates such as Mascom and FNB coming in, promoters, DJs and artists should buckle up.

We’re in for a bumpy ride.
