Botswana Chefs Association (BCA) is planning a chefs competition this August in Francistown.

This was revealed by the association’s President Thuto Masala this past Friday.

Speaking during the launch of the the association’s Francistown branch, Masala said the competition will be held at Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE).

“I’m challenging Francistowners to stay true to their recipes and show the world what they can do. If it’s dobi or thopi, it has to be the real thing,” he said.

“Francistown should lead in cultural diversification, and this is what the competition will be about,” Masala said. The BCA president is however yet to announce dates.

The event is aimed at encouraging basic family leadership (responsibility and accountability) by recognizing, encouraging and honoring at least 50 Fathers that deserve the award of Role Model Fathers; having been subjected to some selection criteria. Certification will be done by the Botswana Bible Training Institute, in association with other relevant players.

Tickets are sold for P500, which goes towards participation, meals, certification, networking, and possible transformation! Private counselling sessions may be scheduled.

While thousands travelled to the south of the country for the FNB Grand Prix, Soul Fill-up and Khawa Dune challenge, the second city was at it’s boring worst during the Labor Day holidays.

The saving grace for Francistown was social football, which has been attracting a huge following lately.

The FNB sponsored tournament at Waterhole was perhaps the biggest football event outside of the Botswana Football Association (BFA) structures this city has ever hosted. Social football is no longer only a threat to mainstream football, but to the night life as we’ve known it.

Now with corporates such as Mascom and FNB coming in, promoters, DJs and artists should buckle up.
