Batho Fashion Week 2nd edition set for August

All fashion-related roads lead to Kazungula Bridge this August for the second edition of the Batho Fashion Week.

A smattering of big names are expected to grace the four-day event, with Young Famous and African star, Luis Munana leading the way alongside GQ South Africa Fashion Director, Luke Ruiters and AU Youth Envoy, H.E Chido Mpemba amongst others.

With attendance strictly by invite only, the fashion extravaganza runs from Thursday 10 August to Sunday 13 August.

The event’s Founding Director, Emmanuel Kayenda told Voice Entertainment he was looking to tap into the niche market of Fashion tourism and found Kazungula Bridge to be the perfect venue.

“Our event also addresses the demand for diverse nightlife experiences in Kasane which is currently limited to daytime safari activities,” he explained.

Batho Fashion Week encapsulates the rich cultural heritage of Botswana and Africa while fostering fashion sustainability and cultural preservation.

“The theme for this fashion week is culture. We believe in the power of fashion as a tool for cultural preservation and promotion, so we fused that element of culture in the fashion pieces to celebrate our dynamic and ever-evolving culture,” explained the Kasane native.

The event will feature 16 designers from Botswana, Mozambique, USA, Namibia, Kenya and South Africa to showcase a Spring-Summer collection with a fusion of African culture.

The fun kicks off with a ‘Diamond Tourism’ show, meant to expose those in attendance to Botswana’s diamond industry.

“This is an invite-only VVIP event where our models will be showcasing diamond jewelry made in Botswana,” Kayenda revealed.

The fashion show will take place on the second day, while day three will round up industry experts for a panel discussion on ‘Building a sustainable fashion brand and youth development across the continent.’

After all the fashion displays and dialogue, revelers will be treated to a boat cruise and an after party to close-off the fashion week.
