A Molepolole Magistrates court last week remanded in custody a man who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend’s mother with a spear before burning down the family’s two houses.
Kgakgamatso Sehubanyane, 31, who has since confessed to the heinous crimes told court during his brief arraignment last week that he desperately needed counselling as he had never known peace since the incident as the memories were haunting him.
Sehubanyane is said to have killed his ex-girlfriend’s mother, Tlotlanang Tebalo (46) in a fit of rage after she told him that her daughter, Segolame Balatlheng, had moved on with her life and was not interested in reconciling with him.
The whole drama, it is alleged, started when Balatlheng who has a child with Sehubanyane decided to leave the toxic relationship.
In order to stay away from the abusive boyfriend she moved from Tshwaane to Khudumelapye to stay at her grandmother’s place.
After the break up, Sehubanyane is said to have asked the girl’s parents to help them reconcile.
Three months later Sehubanyane decided to visit the girl’s mother to find out about progress on the reconciliation process.
He is said to have found Tebalo alone at Tshwaane lands and she explained to him that the reconciliation discussion was stalled as her daughter was no longer interested in the relationship and that she had moved on with another man.
Unable to stomach the truth, an enraged Sehubanyane allegedly accused Tebalo of finding another man for his girlfriend and attacked him, stabbing him several times with a spear on the shoulders, chest and stomach.
After the brutal attack on the defenseless woman, Sehubanyane is said to have set fire on two huts belonging to Balatlheng and her cousin, Timothy Sengawane who were not home at the time.
Later when the neighbours arrived they found Tebalo lying motionless and the two huts burnt to ashes.
The matter was reported to the police who immediately responded and took Tebalo to the hospital where she was certified dead.
Sehubanyane was also arrested and he allegedly confessed to the police.
Sehubanyane told court that ever since his detention in police cells, he has never had any peaceful sleep as the issue was haunting him with visions of the deceased appearing every time he tried to sleep .
He pleaded with the court that whilst being remanded in custody he should be taken for counselling sessions.
Sehubanyane was remanded in custody to give way to police investigations and his next mention was scheduled for February 13th, 2023.
