MUSICIAN: Ms Abbey

After more than two years of silence, Ms Abbey is set to return with a roar as she prepares to drop new single, ‘Africa’.

Scheduled for release after the Easter holidays, the 29-year-old local muso plans to use the track as an appetizer for the mouth-watering main meal, a debut album.

Unwilling to restrict herself to a single genre, Ms Abbey seamlessly infuses Pop, Afro Beats and RnB together to come up with her latest jam.

“It depicts how my album will sound,” adds the talented creative, whose last melody, ‘Dreams’ was a regular on local airwaves back in 2019.

She tells Voice Entertainment ‘Africa’, which was co-written by Thabo Kgosiemang and produced by Berry Bone, celebrates the continent and especially the people.

“We are colourful, loving, happy, and expressive in our identity and that explains the essence of the song,” explains the singer songwriter.

Born, Abigail Muzenda, boasting Zimbabwean roots but having spent her whole life in Botswana, Ms Abbey’s infatuation with music dates back to her time as a youngster, when she would attend church with her family on Sundays and was captivated by the hymns.

Although a lack of finances has held her back somewhat – ‘it’s not like I’m complaining because it is my craft but having sponsors would be nice,’ she interjects with a smile – Ms Abbey has high hopes for her career.

“I see myself going on a couple of World Tours in efforts to bring out the beautiful African sound that we have been blessed with in the best way that I can translate it with my sound and vocal ability,” states the ambitious artist, who counts the likes of Whitney Houston, Oliver Mtukudzi, Brenda Fassie and Beyonce as inspirations.
