MAMPALA SWITCHES GENRES
Francistown based artist Gontse Kennekae who uses the stage name Mampala has made a business decision to switch genres.
The 39 -year-old former House-kwasa artist has now switched to traditional music.
“The reason for switching was to align my music with my age. I can’t do house-kwasa at my age, but traditional music is more suitable even for my audience,” she said in an interview with GiG.
The artist has just dropped her first traditional EP titled ‘Makama’ with four tracks, ‘Hosa’, ‘Ditagi’, ‘Choba’ and the title track.
Born in Semitwe, Mampala started her music career as a traditional dance artist, dropping her debut album Tontosi in 2009, followed by two house-kwasa albums ‘Menateng’ and ‘Standwasami’.
Retracing her steps back to her roots maybe just what the doctor ordered.
