DRAK DROPS ANOTHER ONE

Selebi-Phikwe based rapper, and producer Drak is a man on a mission.

If he’s not producing hits for other rappers, the talented hip hop head is dropping smash hits for himself.

Fresh from the hit ‘Mastonko ntshiele dibiri’, Bin Wang is at it again with the newly released ‘Abashwe’.

The two time BOMU Awards nominee, and Chairman’s Award winner has been at the top of his game for sometime now.

He has single handedly turned Phikwe into a hip hop fortress for rappers looking to stay relevant and ahead of competition.

‘Abashwe’ shows the producer’s versatility, throwing in a few ingredients from the popular ‘Amapiano’ genre to good effect.

The music video to the new single drops this week, and just like many others, its another hit.

Rating: 9/10.

EAST LAY MAN

This jazzy reggae album was put together by some of the biggest names in our local music scene.

The likes of Phillip Mhlanga, Thato Woki, Tinotenda Jazzman and Kopano are no minnows in music circles.

However, despite this amazing talent, the album just doesn’t do it for me.

I like what they did on the ‘East Lay man dub.

The trumpet arrangement by Mhlanga is amazing.

For a moment I thought I was listening to Burning Spear, that’s how good the dub is.

While songs like ‘Tsa borre’ and Prayer for Zakius are also good, the vocals are not at par.

I love reggae music, but this album did not give me the ‘irie’ feeling I was looking for.

Rating: 5/10.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Cue Beat Production will host this year’s Back to School at Molapo Riverside Deck.

Organisers are yet to release a line-up for the January 29th event, but some of Francistown’s leading DJs are expected to dish out free lectures to students.
