The latest passion killing to end a young woman’s played out in Mathangwane village on Monday evening, when a garden boy allegedly clubbed his girlfriend to death with a stone.
42-year-old Koziba Sechele has been charged with the murder of his lover, Motlalepula Keathotse, 35, whose dead body was found at the couple’s shared accommodation in their employer’s yard in Mpatane ward.
According to Tatitown Station Commander, Boipuso Baatweng, Sechele’s boss called the cops at around 2000 hours to report his grisly find.
“When he phoned our offices, he indicated that he found the woman lying in a pool of blood with the boyfriend nowhere to be found. The informant said when he phoned the boyfriend, he admitted he was the one who murdered his girlfriend,” revealed the Superintendent.
Although a manhunt was launched for the missing man, Sechele ended up voluntarily handing himself into Mathangwane Police Post later that night.
He was arraigned before Francistown Magistrate Court on Wednesday morning, where a single count of murder was levelled against him.
Emphasising the freshness of the matter, Prosecutor Moatlhodi Macheng told court, “The investigating officer is still pursuing other potential witnesses; we will ensure we avail him on the next mention.”
When Sechele was asked if he wanted to say anything, he took a deep breath and quietly replied that he had no words.
Deep in thought, he was whisked off to prison in the back of a police van, barely registering as The Voice’s photographer took his pic. He is due back in court on Thursday 26th October.
