VEE MOTIVATES STUDENTS
Botswana’s international star, Vee Mampeezy was the toast of the day at a talent show hosted by Kgalemang Motsete Junior School in Serowe recently.
The popular musician, who has produced hits with some of the biggest names in the region, including Makhadzi and Dan Tshanda, was honoring a promise he made to the Kgalemang JSS community to serenade them.
Vee surprised a lot of students when he revealed he was teetotal.
“Ke lepantsula le le sa nweng (I’m a sober pantsula),” Mampeezy said to his mesmerized audience.
He further encouraged the youngsters to work hard at school and stay away from drugs.
The Kwaito King further told his attentive audience that he was also back in school to better himself.
WAIT A MINUTE RASTA
‘The King of Glory’ album by East Lay Man was reviewed on this column in late January, and scored a paltry 5 out of 10.
To get a second opinion I usually load CDs on my shuttle and drive around.
I must admit this album has since grown on me, and I believe it needed a revisit. While I’m still not convinced by the vocals and the patois, I finally connected with the art in the music. Kopano talks his blues throughout the record, with some of the wittiest lyrics you’ll ever hear.
Songs to listen out for include ‘Don’t wanna be caught’, ‘Bajuta’, ‘Tsa bo rre’ and ‘East Lay Man dub’.
If you’re a reggae lover, get a copy and enjoy the rub-a-dub.
