MESSED UP: The getaway vehicle

A vehicle carrying carcasses of suspected stolen cattle overturned near Polokwe this week following a dramatic police chase.

Superintendent David Ramoseki of Moshupa police confirmed this week that a double cab Nissan Hardbody, flipped on the dirt road at around 4am on Wednesday while the police were in hot pursuit, following a tip-off.

“The police found the Nissan Hardbody vehicle near Polokwe circle on its way from the Kanye direction and they tried to stop it. When the suspects refused to stop, the police followed them till they passed the circle. After the circle the suspects drove past a bus stop turning left into the dirt road and in just less than a kilometre from the tarred road the vehicle overturned and the occupants escaped,” explained the police boss.

Police have since arrested two men believed to have connived with the suspects in the theft of the animals.

The men, one aged 18 of Lehutshwane ward and another aged 40 of Logaba ward, both from Kanye were arrested the same morning and are assisting the police with investigations.

The police also revealed that their investigations led them to Mabutsane village where they managed to locate the owner of the stolen cows.

“I wish to plead with members of the public to desist from buying stolen meat as it may put their health at risk as they may never know if it is in good condition to be consumed or not,” added Superintendent Ramoseki.

Between 18th and 20th January 2023, Moshupa police intercepted two Honda Fit cars, one carrying carcasses of two stolen cows while the other was carrying carcases of three stolen goats.
