Although her career in radio is still in its infancy, Lesego Bile is fast becoming a star of the airwaves.
The 35-year-old Molepolole native is the host of Duma FM’s slightly raunchy late night show, ‘After Dark’.
Q. When did your radio career start?
I started working on radio about five months ago.
Q. And when did your love for radio begin?
My love for radio started from a young age.
I was about 16/17 years old when my dad Mike Klinck invited me to RB1, where he worked at the time.
I was so fascinated about what he was doing.
He asked me to say hi to the listeners but I froze and ever since it haunted me that I never spoke on radio! So my passion and love for radio began then.
I promised myself no matter what I was going to work on radio.
Q. Briefly take us through your radio programme?
My show is called ‘After Dark’.
It’s a relationship program, but mainly deals with issues of the bedroom (laughing).
Mr Lets Montsosa and I work together.
The whole aim of this program is to build homes and try to teach people that communication in all relationships is very important.
I am a social worker so 30 minutes before the show we have a segment called O JEWA KE ENG were people call in to share their relationship problems and we advice.
If the issues are too complex we advise people to get professional help.
Q. How do you juggle your radio role with a full-time job?
Having two jobs is not easy.
Even though radio is part-time it still needs the same amount of dedication, research and commitment.
I love radio so when I leave my show, around 12.30am the next morning, I get home at 1am sleep for threehours up at 4 to put on the geyser and leave for work by 7.15.
I muscle through the day because I don’t want my day job to lack in anyway so I do extra at work and push myself more.
It gives both jobs a balance.
I’m proud to be a strong working class independent woman.
Q. Who is youfavourite local artist?
A.T.I. I love him to bits and dance to his songs with passion!
Q. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I have ever received is from my step dad Tom Tomic, to work hard because nobody else can give you the life you deserve.
He advised me to always have a job no matter how small the money is because everything is about the experience you acquire and that’s more valuable than anything!
Q. Have you ever had a run-in with a listener on air?
I did have a caller who once said I speak too much English! But hey different people listen to the show so I have to keep it back to basics.
Q. What would you say has been the highlight of your career?
The highlight of my career is every day.
I talk to my listeners on a day-to-day basis.
We talk on social media, we share pics, they tell me how much they appreciate us.
Q. If you could swap careers, what would you choose?
I would never swap careers!
I’m a people’s person,a hotelier, radio personal and chef, paramedic and social worker that focused on child development.
All these careers have to do with people, so I’m an all rounder but would never trade hospitality and radio for anything.
Q. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
To be honest I say hi to God.
I tell him I love him and ask him to guide and protect my day.
Q. Five thing people don’t know about you?
- My favouritecolour is blue
- I love cheesecake
- My shoe size is 4
- I would love to write a book
- I would love to learn how to fly a plane though I’m afraid of heights!
