Two suspected thieves landed themselves in further trouble recently, when they were allegedly overheard at court plotting to burn alive the Magistrate who was presiding over their robbery case!
Hauled before Takatokwane Magistrates Court on 13 June, Kago Keteng, 35, and his companion, 39-year-old Potso Botswana Ramontshonyana, were initially in hot soup for their sticky fingers.
However, their loose lips made things much worse.
With Ramontshonyane on remand at the time and his co-accused Keteng out on bail, the pair were reunited at the Kweneng West court.
Apparently believing they were out of earshot, the duo had a heated conversation, Ramontshonyane supposedly demanding to know why Keteng had delayed in ‘pulling-off their plan’.
According to the charge sheet, the exchange went: “What are you waiting for since you are the one who is supposed to execute our plan! You don’t know that the Magistrate [Mmamerafhe Phologo] stays behind the school, you should go and look for people who can burn her in the house!”
An alarmed eavesdropper quickly reported this to the cops and both men were re-arrested and charged with indirectly threatening to kill Magistrate, Mmamerafhe Phologo.
The matter is being heard before Molepolole Magistrates Court, with Investigating Officer, Tshupetso Mokgopa, appearing this week to give a status update.
The Detective revealed they still hoped to collect more statements from possible witnesses and so begged court not to give the suspects bail as they might interfere with this process.
“The accused are facing a serious case of robbery before Takatokwane Magistrate Court. One of the conditions was that they shouldn’t commit a crime whilst on bail and they have already violated the condition,” pointed out the Assistant Superintendent.
Mokgopa got his wish, with court remanding the pair, who turned up with Covid-19 masks, ensuring there was no chance their conversations would be overheard this time!
Keteng, of Phalane ward in Molepolole and Ramontshonyane, a Lethlhakeng native from Modimo ward, will return to court for bail hearing on 25 July.
