*Segotso stands her ground as Minister Salakae files a P2.5m legal suit
A political firestorm is brewing as activist Mmaotho Segotso faces a staggering P2.5 million defamation lawsuit from Minister of Public Works & Infrastructure, Noah Salakae over a Facebook post he says was offensive.
According to legal documents filed by attorneys Serole and Partners, acting on behalf of Salakae, the lawsuit stems from an alleged defamatory publication made by Segotso on September 18, 2025, titled “GREED IS DEADLY.”
The post, which was published on Segotso’s personal Facebook page, allegedly contained strong language and bold allegations directed at the minister.
Among other things, Segotso wrote, “Lets take cde Noah Serikgweri L Salakae, who I know has disappointed many in the nation… The cabinet seat places Noah in the nation’s history.
He automatically becomes a powerful political figure with influence.
He is literally clothed in a blue, black and white robe. That’s honour!” She went on to write, “But the Cde is not satisfied. He departs from God and goes to sit with satan.” Segotso continued, “After bowing satan gives him what Noah thought it is master plan. Nowhere does satan mention getting caught… The plan gets into action, and through this plan Noah recruits other people to satan’s web… stealing money of this magnitude requires many hands.”
She concluded with, “Today the brother has fallen. He faces NATIONAL SHAME. He has disgraced generations of the Salakae lineage.”
The legal documents state that these words were understood to mean that Minister Salakae is greedy, corrupt, dishonest, lacking moral fibre, and unfit to serve as a minister or public official.
The lawyers argue that, given Facebook’s wide reach, Segotso’s post was calculated to tarnish Salakae’s public image both personally and professionally, resulting in reputational damage amounting to P2.5 million.
In their demand letter, the lawyers instructed Segotso to issue a public apology on the same Facebook post within one day of receiving the notice, to remove the post within that same period, and to provide a written undertaking within two days that she will not publish further defamatory material against Salakae.
The letter also demanded payment of P2.5 million in damages within fourteen days from receipt of the letter, warning that failure to comply would result in immediate legal action being taken against her.
But Segotso was far from silent. In a fiery Facebook response last Wednesday titled “I GOT SERVED”, she announced to her followers, “Folks Noah Salakae is suing me for a post I made on the 18th September about his alleged corruption that was plastered over the media. Worth mentioning is the fact that BIG MEDIA HOUSES, ONLINE PLATFORMS and other ACTIVISTS continue writing about this, but out of all these people, Noah singles me out! WHY? TO GAG ME!”
She questioned the motive behind her being targeted, claiming political bias and selective silencing.
“Bagaetsho, for over a decade, I wrote many things about BDP LEADERS! UDC ACTIVISTS have literally insulted BDP LEADERS, but they were never threatened,” she wrote.
Segotso further reminded her followers of her political roots, asserting that she is one of the founders of the leading party and that she has served both the President and the Vice President.
Her defiance culminated in a bold declaration that electrified social media.
“Am I scared? No! I am actually excited. This AUTHENTICATES ME AS A REVOLUTIONIST, THE REVOLUTION SHALL NOT BE SILENCED!!!… if the UDC wants to JAIL ME, I’M JAIL READY! BUT I REFUSE TO BE SILENCED!” wrote Segotso.
