Man accused of raping former lover and then setting his dogs on her
Seemingly unable to stomach seeing his ex with someone else, a young man is accused of kidnapping his former lover, dragging her back to his house where he allegedly raped her, beat her to a bloody pulp and then set his dogs on her.
The police have since added an additional charge of defilement against the 29-year-old suspect, as it emerged his ex was only 16 when they started sleeping together back in 2021.
The Mabesekwa man, who cannot be named to protect the complainant’s identity, was charged with rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the brutal events of 27 December 2025.
It was heard that after raping his ex, he beat her ‘all over the body’ with a stone and a slasher before letting his dogs bite her.
Appearing before Francistown Magistrates Court on Tuesday, the accused confessed to committing the assault but pleaded not guilty to rape and defilement.
The state, meanwhile, asked for more time to compile their defilement case.
“We are not ready with the facts for count three. May another date be set for case management conference and facts reading,” pleaded the prosecutor.
The matter was duly rescheduled for 7 July, with the suspect currently out on bail. In a surprise development, he left court accompanied by the complainant, who sat beside him throughout the proceedings.
