BTC injects P300 000 into UB golf day

As part of its corporate social responsibility drive, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) took part in the 16th annual University of Botswana (UB) Fundraising Golf Day as a platinum sponsor, injecting P150 000 in the tournament.

The sponsorship, which is in its second and final year is annualized at an amount of P150,000.00 which means the collective sponsorship is P300 000, including funds injected in 2022.

Speaking at the Golf Day prize giving ceremony, the BTC General Manager Enterprise Sales, Lebudi Kgetse, stated that golf is a magnificent sport that is about inclusion, fun, impact, partnerships, sportsmanship further adding that at BTC they live by these same principles that drive impact in communities.

“Even though this year marks the second and last year of the partnership with UB Foundation, BTC will continue supporting this great initiative one way or the other, because we strongly believe in the notion that our country can only be transformed by empowering Batswana through education, “he said.

The UB Foundation Trust which was established in 2000 is a non-profit making entity and it organizes annual fundraising events in support of various activities and programmes at the University of Botswana. The UB Foundation Golf day event is used to raise funds towards the Graduate Scholarship Endowment Fund through which the Foundation provides scholarships to deserving students.

Through the Endowment Fund, which was established in 2003, the UB Foundation has been able to award scholarships to more than 318 students.

“We convey our thanks to all the teams and golfers who participated in this year’s fundraising tournament. To sponsors its an immense job you did, continue to drive the great work done by the University of Botswana, because the success of the UB Foundation is everyone’s success,” said Kgetse.

The first position went to a team from Botswana Defense Force (BDF) with 108 points, while First Mutual Reinsurance (FMRE) took second position with 104 points and Debswana scooped the third position with 103 points. The BTC team came at position 4 with 102 points.
