Man drowns after car sinks in flooding river
Police have warned motorists to be vigilant and avoid driving into flooded roads during this wet festive season.
The concerned cops issued the warning after the body of a 40- year- old man who drowned in Matsimaswaane River was recovered on Monday, 6km from the place where his car was submerged.
The late Motse Seabo emet his demise in a car accident that occurred when he was trying to cross the river within Lion’s Park Estate this past weekend.
Ramotswa Police station commander, Keoagile Tau confirmed that they received a report of the accident in the early morning hours of Sunday.
“It was raining on Saturday night between 11pm and midnight therefore the river was flooded when the man’s car went out of control and capsized,” said Tau.
He also explained that the Police visited the scene and found out the driver was missing and therefore launched a manhunt on Sunday morning around 6am in conjunction with Botswana Defence Force unit’s scuba divers.
“Motorists should be careful as bridges get destroyed during rainy days, they should be patient and let the water pass before they attempt to cross flooded roads,” said Tau.
Meanwhile, the former employer of the deceased, FIDUCIA Botswana took to Facebook to publish an official statement to express deepest sorrow upon the passing of their dear friend and colleague.
The statement, which described Seabo as a; “Devoted father and husband’ also highlighted that the man had vast experience in his field. He was also, “A devout member of the Lutheran Church who contributed his time and resources to the various committees in the church,” FIDUCIA noted
The family requested to be given space and time to mourn their beloved as they prepared for the funeral on Wednesday,December, 22nd.
