Botswood ventures in Reality TV
After clinching a three-year contract deal with BTV for popular drama ‘Botshelo Jo’, Botswana’s leading production house, Botswood Studios, has turned up the heat to produce even hotter content for its audience.
Next on its reel is ‘My Golden Bash’, a coming of age show which seeks to celebrate lives well lived.
“On the 24 minute show, we go down memory lane with our beloved seniors aged 70 and above, as we glean decades of knowledge from their experiences, to celebrate their lives and to seek wisdom, teachings and guidance,” shared Botswood Managing Director, Lawrence Lekolwane.
The idea is to pull off an epic birthday party for a grandma/pa as a way of giving them their flowers, and to show just how much they are cared for and appreciated.
“In the first segment, one of the grandchildren introduces their grandparent and why they are deserving of such a grand gesture. In the same segment, viewers will get to enjoy the preparation process and how the family members come together to make the big day a success,” said Lekolwane.
He went on to describe the second segment, which is a diary session set up for an up close and personal interaction with the birthday girl/boy. The diary session will then make way for the highlight of the show: the party.
A key part of the programme is the Nuggets of Wisdom Corner which falls in the third segment. After all the festivities and messages of appreciation from loved ones, the star of the show spares a few minutes to share their best advice for living a long and happy life.
“This is similar to a fireside story time that has been instrumental in passing down knowledge, history and wisdom found in most African communities.”
Lekolwane stated that the dream is to expand the tv show throughout Southern Africa and beyond.
“We are already working on a collaboration with Zimbabwean cinematographer Umsebenzi ka Blaqs (who is well known for producing Jah Prayzah’s music videos), for the Zimbabwean edition,” he shared.
“We are currently open for submissions, so I encourage Batswana to reach us on 72953532 for a memorable documentation of their granny’s birthday.
Airing dates are yet to be communicated as the show is still in the production stage.
