A LIFE ON THE LINE: Baby Asli with family

*Young life hangs in the balance as desperate parents seek urgent liver transplant
*Stars unite in benefit concert to raise P600k for life-saving surgery

What initially seemed like a common condition for newborns has turned into a life-threatening battle for one-year-old Asli Mokgosi, bringing together family, friends and well-wishers in a unified force fighting for her survival.

Born with jaundice, a condition that typically clears within weeks in newborns, Asli’s case took a worrying turn when the yellowing of her skin and eyes persisted well beyond infancy.

Concerned, her parents sought medical attention, only to discover the condition was far more serious than initially thought.

After several consultations, the young child was reportedly diagnosed with biliary atresia, a rare but severe liver condition that blocks or damages the bile ducts.

But the delay in getting medical assistance has caused damage to the liver.

According to her father Mikhail Ntshole, doctors have advised that Asli urgently needs a liver transplant, a complex and costly procedure that her family cannot afford on their own.

With the clock ticking, loved ones have stepped in, determined to give the little girl a fighting chance at life.

“It took us months for Baby Asli to get an MRI from a public hospital, and by the time she did it was already irreversible, and now the surgery she needs can only be done in India and costs $45 000.00”, said Ntshole.

Faced with overwhelming medical costs, the Ntshole family is now racing against time, appealing to the public to help with the hope of raising enough funds to give baby Asli a fighting chance at life.

In a powerful show of unity and compassion, friends of the family are organising a benefit concert titled “A Night of Music for Baby Asli”, set to take place at Maitisong Theatre on Sunday, 29 March 2026, from 1700hrs to 2000hrs.

The event will feature a vibrant lineup of local artists including Baxon, Scar and Zeus, all coming to lend their voices and talents to support the cause.

All proceeds from the concert will go directly towards funding Asli’s life-saving surgery.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, a family friend, Japhala Aether Gwangwa, shared that the initiative is not just about fundraising, but also about raising awareness.

“This is about giving Asli a chance to live a normal life. We are calling on everyone to come together and support in any way they can. Every contribution matters,” Gwangwa said.

Tickets for the concert are priced at P200. For those unable to attend, donations can also be made through the Facebook page “Hope for Asli Fundraiser”.

Asli’s story is a painful reminder that behind every medical case is a family clinging to hope.

For her parents, this concert is a lifeline. With the community now rallying behind her, the hope is that baby Asli will soon get the second chance she so desperately needs.
