South African artist, Rockzie, this week came to the aid of needy girls as he donated sanitary pads to Sir Seretse Khama Junior Secondary School and Kgari Sechele II Senior School in Gaborone and Molepolole respectively.

The donation comprised four boxes, each containing 100-150 single packets of sanitary pads for both schools.

Speaking at the donation handover on Friday, Rockzie said the reason she chose Botswana was due to the love and support she has received locally for her craft.

“I chose sanitary pads because I know the pain of being on your monthly periods but being unable to afford any sanitary pads. So I brought these to encourage these girls and to assure them that no matter how hard the situation is we are available to assist,” said the 18-year-old artist.

Rockzie said this was just the first of more gestures to come and that in future she will also include boys in her donations.

Quizzed on why she chose the two Schools, she said: “I found information out there that there are lots of needy girls who can’t afford sanitary pads. So based on the amount I was able to afford I decided to start with the two schools. So when I can gather more resources I will surely spread to other schools,” she said.

Born Rokunda Pertunia Mutheiwana, Rockzie is a South African artist from Limpopo who started as a backing vocalist for Bavenda Cultural group before going solo.

Since going solo, the 18-year-old has released songs such as “vumani” and “inkanyezi” which have become popular among her legion of fans.
