Drug deal gone wrong

ACCUSED: Pheto

A 26-year-old man from Botshabelo ward in Kumakwane village reportedly stabbed his friend with a knife and hacked him with an axe last Saturday morning following a dispute over drug money.

It is alleged that on the fateful day, the accused- Tshepiso Pheto nicknamed ‘Rock’, confronted his victim- 24-year-old ThusoThagaetsile demanding his share of money they made from selling dagga.

An argument is said to have ensued and a relative intervened, reprimanding the duo before he left to collect firewood at a nearby bush.

While still collecting the firewood, the man received a phone call from a neighbour informing him that Pheto and Thagaetsile were fighting.

During the fight Pheto allegedly took a knife and an axe and attacked Thagaetsile leaving him with deep wounds on the neck and head.

Tlhagaetsile collapsed on the spot and his motionless body that lay on a pool of blood was later taken to Thamaga Primary Hospital by the police where he was certified dead by medical doctors.

Pheto was arrested and was further remanded in custody by a Molepolole Magistrate’s Court last week facing a single count of murder.

State prosecutor Sub Inspector Ogone Motsholathebe pleaded with the court to remand Pheto in custody noting that the matter was still fresh and that the police needed time to record statements from the witnesses.

Pheto will be back in court for mention on August 21st, 2023.
