The quiet village of Sese has been rocked by a suspected murder-suicide involving two young lovers.

32-year-old Serowe native, Omphile Gaoiphitlhelwe is believed to have strangled his girlfriend, Olerato Moletsane, 31, to death before taking his own life.

Confirming the tragedy, Jwaneng Station Commander, Osimilwe Mangena, says his office received the first report at around 0800hrs on Sunday (1 February) morning, when a man looking for his cows stumbled upon Gaoiphitlhelwe’s body hanging from a tree.

“While we were still dealing with the report, almost immediately we received another report from Sese, this time from people who identified themselves as Gaoiphitlhelwe’s tenants.”

The superintendent said one of the tenants told them she was walking around the yard in the morning, and came across a note written ‘Check my house, am gone’ by Gaoiphitlhelwe’s door.

Mangena said the reporter immediately opened the door and found Moletsane lying motionless on the bed.

The tenants reported their grim discovery to the Sese Kgosi, who subsequently alerted the police.

MURDERED: Moletsane

Moletsane was rushed to Jwaneng Mine Hospital where it was confirmed she was indeed dead.

Superintendent Mangena added investigations showed the couple often fought, particularly when drunk. It is further reported they were seen ‘having fun’ together at around midnight on the night of the tragedy.

The top cop advised couples to resolve their issues peacefully and to avoid fights, particularly when under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, Moletsane’s mother, Baratang Moletsane, told The Voice they will lay their child to rest in her home village Mabutsane this Saturday.

“Gaoiphitlhelwe’s family came to us after the incident to stand with us and formally introduce themselves,” added the heartbroken mum.
