Girl fatally stabs her boyfriend on Independence Day

A tragic incident marred Independence celebrations in Gerald Estates when a woman allegedly stabbed a Maitengwe native with a sharp object, believed to be a knife.

The incident took place at a depot where residents were commemorating the country’s 59th Independence.

The accused, 32-year-old Mphoentle Dikgametsi, was arraigned before the Francistown Magistrates’ Court today on a single count of murder. She is accused of killing Keabetswe Lubinda.

Details surrounding the incident remain limited, with the investigating officer scheduled to testify at the next court mention.

During today’s hearing, State Prosecutor Mungisto Chigala described the case as fresh and requested the accused be remanded in custody.

“The State needs to deepen its investigations and collect statements from potential witnesses,” he said.

The accused informed the court that she intends to engage an attorney.

She was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 21
