Maun man denies double-murder charges
A 38-year-old man from Disana ward in Maun, Tlhalosang Kelapile, appeared before a Maun Magistrates court this morning, 25 September 2025, charged with the murders of his live-in girlfriend, Lesang Noga, and their two-and-a-half-year-old son, Yuri Noga.
The mother and son, originally from Otse village in the Southeast District, were discovered last week, on September 19th, hanging from a tree near Disana kgotla in what was initially thought to be murder-suicide incidents.
However, the investigation led to Kelapile, a motor mechanic, being charged with double murder.
According to the charge sheet, he is believed to have murdered the duo on or before the 19th.
In court, Kelapile made a brief statement claiming to have no knowledge of what transpired.
“I walked into the scene after my return from church at 6am. I have no clue of what could have transpired,” he told the court.
The magistrate, however, did not allow him to elaborate further, noting that he would have an opportunity to present his defence at a later stage in the proceedings.
Kelapile expressed shock and a desire to understand the circumstances that led to the deaths of the two.
A formal plea was not taken as the matter was deemed to be at an initial stage of investigations.
The court set bail hearing for October 6, 2025
