FINGERED: President Mnangagwa

A lot of people in government and ZanuPF offices are no doubt quaking in their boots.

So much has happened in the last couple of days within the ruling party while more unsettling revelations about the first family are expected in the not-so-distant future.

The much-talked-about Al Jazeera documentary has exposed how President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his associates are involved in gold smuggling and money laundering involving millions of American dollars.

In the coming editions of the four-part documentary, the first lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa, and her son, Emmerson Junior, will also be named as being part of the gold mafia.

Embattled Presidential Envoy, Prophet Eubert Angel, in his bid to pre-empt the documentaries, has claimed that it’s not the real first lady and first son that are talked about but just decoys.

A little too late to do damage control as more damning information continues to be released.

Al Jazeera Investigation Unit, on Tuesday, launched a podcast season which takes the listener inside the gold mafia investigation.

“We go behind the scenes, hear from the investigators and disclose new revelations not shown in the films,” reads the caption of the podcast.

In the first podcast, gold dealer, Ewan Macmillan, reveals that the President is his partner.

Government spin doctors and public relations officers are finding it tough to defend this exposé, which comes a few months before the country goes for general elections.

If we were in another world, the president would have resigned in shame but, no, not in Africa, and certainly not in Zimbabwe.

Talking of elections, the ruling party held its primary polls this last weekend and it’s interesting how there have been claims of rigging and gross irregularities in the electoral process.

The ruling party has always rubbished claims by the opposition that elections are rigged and funny how they have admitted to that in their own elections and have withheld some of the results.

Also interesting to note is that some big fish and President Mnangagwa’s blue-eyed ‘boys’ fell by the wayside, which could be one of the reasons results have been withheld so that they can be fixed in favour of the high office and not the people.

Political analysts have noted that these primary elections have been about eliminating the President’s hardliners and paving way for members of the G40, a faction of the ruling party which supported the late former President, Robert Mugabe.

We are certainly headed for more intriguing times and, as they would say, it’s time for more popcorn as we brace ourselves for the coming days, weeks and months that could be life-changing for some people who thought they were untouchable.
