25-year-old singer Rittar hit the big time back in 2016 when her collaboration with DJ King, ‘Go Siame’ emerged as one of the songs of the year.
Indeed, the massive hit still enjoys regular radio time today.
The multi-talented Rittar – real name Lebogang Nkawana – has since gone on to establish herself as a solo artist and looks set for a bright future.
Q. How did you spend your lockdowns?
The first lockdown I was in Palapye (home) with my family, until the last weeks where I had to resume work.
The ‘time out’, as I called it, helped keep me sane. Our industry can get a little overwhelming sometimes and so it was a blessing in disguise.
Q. Did you pick up any bad habits during your ‘time out’?
Sleeping! Oh my God, I slept a lot during the lockdown phase.
I just couldn’t help it. I am at peace when I am asleep.
Q. And now that you’re fully awake, can we expect any new music?
Oh Yes!
I have a new single coming out end of October featuring Kaizer World.
The song is titled ‘Mang’ and I am really excited about it and can’t wait for you all to hear it.
Q. As a well-known public figure famous for your daring dress sense, have you ever been a victim of cyberbullying?
Fortunately no I haven’t, well at least not yet!
It is a horrible space for one to be in; I just don’t know how I would take but I would just like to urge people out there to really be mindful of their keyboards.
The hate one gives really can have a negative impact on another regardless of whether the person is a celebrity or a person in a position of power.
Q. Talking about celebrities, who is your celebrity crush?
(Laughing) You want to get me into trouble!
I would say Sun El Musician.
Q. What new projects are you working on?
Besides the single that I am about to drop there are so many collaborations, both international and local that I am working on.
But because of contractual obligations, I am not at liberty to say much.
However, I can safely say I AM BACK!
Q. A warm welcome back! How has Covid-19 affected your professional growth?
Eish, it has affected my brand a lot because I had so much planned for this year.
The entertainment industry is still closed and the restrictions mean we literally have everything on hold.
Some of the projects that we had planned and invested on have come to a complete halt and so it is really difficult on everyone for now.
Q. Five things people don’t know about you?
1. I talk a lot. I am very jolly
2. I did karate growing up, and I was good at it!
3. I have the most annoying laughter
4. I’m a great cook
5. I am obsessed with travelling and exploring new places. I would never turn down an opportunity to travel
