Miss Bakgalagari demands her dues
Organisers of the Mr and Miss Bakgalagari pageant have pleaded for mercy from their supporters following a social media rant by Miss Bakgalagari 2022 Rosemary Kailane over the past few days demanding her prize winnings.
The Maboane native was crowned on December 3rd 2022 in the Best of the Best pageant which saw her (2018 winner), competing against other queens from the pageant’s previous editions. She recently took to social media to launch a complaint against the organisation which has only given her P1000 from the P10 000 she supposedly won last December.
A source close to Kailane told Voice Entertainment that the beauty queen took to social media as a cry for help after the pageant organisers failed to explain when exactly she would get her money. “She has grown weary because she always initiates the conversations, only to be told that she will get her payment soon.”
Mr and Miss Bakgalagari event organiser Sigho Phori confirmed these allegations and further revealed Kailane was not the only one who hasn’t been paid from last year’s pageant.
“Although we often struggle with payments because we have no sponsors, this is the first time in our seven year history that we have taken so long to pay people, however we are working tirelessly to gather funds and plead patience from them while we work that out.”
Phori expressed disappointment at Kailane’s decision to run to social media saying, “I practically groomed her to become the pageant queen she is and I was deeply disappointed to see her going off the way she did on social media.”
Meanwhile, June 4th marked the closing date for this year’s edition of the pageant which is usually slated for December.
Mr and Miss Bakgalagari is an event aimed at celebrating the Bakgalagadi tribe’s history, traditions and culture through various activities such as music, fashion and pageantry.
