Catching the police off guard, four men armed with knives and axes reportedly stormed and robbed Goodhope police station of 14 AK-47 service rifles and ammunition this morning.
Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Selinah Omphile, confirmed the incident but was reluctant to shed more light as she said details of the incident would be revealed in a a media statement expected to be issued later today.
She however confirmed that indeed there was an armed robbery that took place at the Goodhope Police station.
Voice Online has received information to the effect that the robbery took place in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
It is alleged that it all began when three men stormed the Goodhope police community service , telling police officers that they were following an unknown person from a village nearby who, according to them, was coming to the station to make a report.
Whilst dealing with the matter, about an hour later, four masked men stormed the station with knives and axes.
They allegedly proceeded to tie down the female police officers with cables and locked them at the radio room and headed to the armory.
According to our source, 14 AK-47 rifles, five service pistols, and ammunition were stolen during the armed robbery.
