Allegedly stabbed victim under the breast with a screwdriver
The security guard accused of the brutal murder of a young woman in Selepa earlier this week appeared before Francistown Magistrates Court today (Friday 19 September).
On Tuesday in the early afternoon, Ronnie Dominic, 57, is said to have fatally stabbed Thato Mooketsi, 32, with a screwdriver just below her left breast at her rented accommodation before fleeing the scene.
Dominic was arrested the following day, the police, acting on a tip-off, reportedly tracking him down to an uncle’s house in Kgapamadi, where he had taken refuge.
Given the chance to address court, the suspect revealed he was dating Mooketsi, who also worked as a security guard.
However, the deceased’s brother, Thabo Mooketsi, insisted this was the first he had heard of the relationship.
Calling on his sister’s suspected killer to remain locked-up, Thabo told court he was strongly opposed to Dominic getting bail as Mooketsi’s murder had left the family completely shattered.
“Let us bury my sister in peace, without her [alleged] killer roaming the streets,” requested an emotional Thabo.
The Investigating Officer (IO), Misani Modise, further strengthened the need for remand, noting investigations were ongoing, with the cops still to record some witness statements.
“We are also to transmit some of the exhibits to Botswana Forensic Laboratory for analysis,” added Modise, informing court the accused person was previously convicted of assault in 1992 and 2007.
Remanded in custody, Dominic is due back in court for status mention on 29 September.
