Maun Police have made a public appeal to help locate the family of Mmusi Moyo, a man aged between 35 and 40 years from Gambule village in the Northeast District who was found dead in his rented room at Kubung ward in Maun.
Confirming the Incident, Maun police Station Commander Dennis Zilawe revealed that the decease’s landlord reported the incident to the police on Monday afternoon (November 11, 2024).
“Another tenant reported a very horrible stench coming from his neighbour’s house, there was also an unusual sighting of flies around the house. The landlord reported the matter to the police who went and broke open the door and found the man lying in a decomposed state inside the house,” revealed Zilawe.
According to Zilawe postmortem examination was done on the corpse at the scene which confirmed that there was no foul play in Moyo’s death,“Due to the decomposed state a postmortem report was done at his house. His body was intact, and foul play was ruled out. The doctors recommended that he be taken to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital Mortuary while we search for his family,” said Zilawe.
Zilawe noted that Moyo was last seen alive on October 30th, buying bread at a tuckshop in the compound.
Zilawe further revealed that the landlord reported that when they did not see Moyo for days, they assumed that he had visited friends or relatives.
According to Zilawe, efforts to locate the deceased’s relatives have proved futile at this point as they do not have any concrete leads.
“It is said that he was staying all by himself and never had any friends or visitors and this has made our search for his family very difficult. We tried to locate his family in Gambule but we have not yet succeeded. Upon searching his house, we have not found any form of identification” added Zilawe.
Zilawe has pleaded with the public to assist with information that could help in locating the deceased’s family as soon as possible for him to be properly laid to rest.
