BOTSWANA BEAUTY: Uua Murangi

No Miss Botswana pageant this year

She was a surprise entrant to the Top six of the Miss Botswana pageant last year, winning her place by virtue of the audience’s vote, now it seems Uua Murangi may be headed for Miss World.

Whilst the world is still grappling with the effects of the Covid-19 scourge, with major events being cancelled or postponed worldwide, Voice Entertainment can reveal that national pageant Miss Botswana will also not happen this year.

This was confirmed by the pageant spokesperson, Pauline Dikuelo in an interview this week.

“The national event will not happen this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have been monitoring this situation over the months and we have come to the conclusion not to host the event. As you maybe be aware by now we should have been at advanced stages of the planning of the event but because of the lockdown situation we have had to push things back a little bit.”

Quizzed further, Dikuelo revealed they are yet to receive word from the Miss World organisation on whether the international pageant – set for Thailand at the end of the year – will go ahead.

“We are yet to receive any official communication from them but should the international pageant go ahead in December as is normal we will then send in our reigning First Princess to represent the country,” she explained.

However, when contacted for a comment, Murangi, the 2019 runner-up, expressed surprised at such news.

“You have literally caught me off guard. I have not been in touch with the Miss Botswana team so I do not know!” Murangi responded in a telephonic interview.

“I have no comment for now,” added last year’s First Princess when asked if she would accept the chance to finally represent Botswana on the world stage.
