A Zimbabwean man found himself on the wrong side of the law after a night of passion turned into a nightmare.
The unemployed 26-year-old Jabulani Dube of Hingwe village in Zimbabwe looked stunned before a Francistown Magistrates court last Thursday (September 12th, 2024), where he faced serious charges after he allegedly forced himself on his girlfriend at Sezi cattlepost near Dukwi village on September 2nd.
Dube’s shock was evident as he slumped to the floor beside the dock, seemingly overwhelmed by his fate.
The court charged him with rape and illegally entering in the country.
Although he did not enter a plea for the rape charge, Dube admitted to border jumping.
The court papers indicated that Dube snuck into Botswana in August near Maitengwe village.
Opposing Dube’s quest for freedom, the State Prosecutor Mbatshi Mafa noted that the accused person was not a bail candidate as he did not have any travelling documents and granting him bail would be a risk.
“We are scared he will go back to his country. And this is a fresh matter pending statements recording. The DNA is still to be taken to the forensic laboratory for analysis.
“Therefore, we plead that the accused person be remanded in custody, so we complete our investigations,” said the Prosecutor.
The court considered the state’s application, remanding Dube in custody as the investigation continues.
