Third time’s a charm for Balaakgosi II
Like a fine wine that gets better with time, popular Tonota star, BalaaKgosi II believes his third album is his best work yet.
The Traditional contemporary artist proudly tells GiG ‘S’toki sa Mmabiki’ is a step up in quality from his previous LPs, both in terms of sound and lyrical content.
“It is a ten-track feel good album that will appeal to old and young alike; it will get everyone in the mood to dance,” insists the singer born Biki Motswetla.
Songs to look out for include ‘Mmapula’, an up-beat, celebratory tune fast becoming a wedding anthem in the north east.
The ever-busy Dr Tawanda adds his distinguished voice to the mix, featuring on two tracks, ‘Ha nka Mmona’ and ‘Mama’. The Zimbabwean’s Shona works well with BalaaKgosi’s Setswana, the contrasting languages combining to create an intriguing melody.
A big part of BalaaKgosi’s appeal is his energetic live performances, with the singer-songwriter and his brilliant backing dancers available for hire at weddings – for more information, check out his Facebook page.
