Ghetto gearing up for biggest Thanksgiving ceremony yet
The Office of the First Lady will host the third annual National Thanksgiving Ceremony in Francistown on Saturday November 29, with Kaone Boko confident this will be the event’s biggest edition to date.
In preparation for the ceremony, Boko held a consultative meeting with church leaders on Thursday to discuss arrangements for the big day and strengthen collaboration with the Christian community.
Launched in 2024, the unifying initiative brings together religious leaders and the broader community in a spirit of gratitude, faith and hope. It provides an opportunity for the nation to thank God for the blessings received over the past year while seeking divine guidance and favour for the year ahead.
Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Secretary in Ministry of State President, Defence and Security, Goitsemang Morekisi revealed the aim was initially to unify churches and unite Batswana under prayer.
After the inaugural ceremony, however, there were discussions between the Office of the First Lady and church leaders to turn this into a formal national occasion.
Addressing a packed civic centre, Boko said she lives by prayer, and is grateful for what God has done in her life.
“I found it necessary to testify loudly to Batswana about the goodness of the Lord, and what can be possible if all churches come together and pray in one voice,” she explained, adding the event is open to all churches from Christian denominations, evangelical and Pentecostal to come together and thank God for a year’s blessings.
Although a venue is still to be finalised, it is expected the gathering will take place at Adansonia Hotel.
Having previously been exclusively held in Gaborone, last year’s ceremony was graced by both the President, Duma Boko and the Vice President, Ndaba Gaolathe as well as several senior government officials.
