Woman dies on the way to save friend in car accident

Kutlwano police in Francistown are investigating a tragic incident in which a 37-year-old woman died in a road mishap on Sunday at around 0145hrs along Block 7 traffic lights.

The deceased had been on her way to attend to a friend who was involved in an accident that occurred near Gerald Estates.

When confirming the incident, No.1 District Officer Commanding, Paul Molapisi, indicated that the deceased was in the company of a 52-year-old male driver who sustained a fracture on the right ankle.

“They were driving in a Golf car which collided with a Toyota Surf that had one occupant. Preliminary investigations indicate that the Surf vehicle was heading north from Tonota while the Golf was from Francistown en route to Gerald Estates,” he said.

The police boss added that the Golf passenger was certified dead at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.

“Prior to that, there was another accident that was reported at the industrial area along the Gerald road and we hear the Golf occupants were on their way to attend to them. We are still investigating to get the full story of what happened,” Molapisi said.

The police boss advised people to be cautious when driving and to avoid over speeding as in most cases it is the most common contributor.

The friend, who was to be saved by the deceased, has since been admitted at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.
