Woodhall police are investigating a tragic suicide incident at Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital, where a 22-year-old patient took his own life last Monday evening.
The young man, hailing from Gaphatshwa ward in Metsimotlhabe, had been admitted to the hospital for rehabilitation just a week prior, on October 11, 2023.
According to reports, he was discovered on that fateful day lying on the floor with a blanket seam tightly wrapped around his neck.
Shockingly, it was found that he had used the blanket seam to hang himself on the electric cable for the light, which was subsequently torn down due to his weight.
Superintendent Daniel Katse, the Station Commander of Woodhall police, confirmed this heartbreaking incident to The Voice Online.
He mentioned that the patient apparently hanged himself while other patients were attending a gathering.
While this isn’t the first such incident at the hospital, Superintendent Katse was reluctant to disclose any further details. “It is not the first time to have this kind of report from the hospital. It’s only that I cannot talk about it, it’s confidential and we respect the rights of the patients as we are talking about a hospital for mentally disturbed people,” he said.
