MASA Racing Park in Samedupi village near Maun is gearing up for its second edition of the Easter holiday horse race competitions slated for Saturday, April 19th, 2025.

The thrilling competition promises to be bigger and better, drawing top jockeys and elite horses from across Botswana, Namibia, and Lesotho for a day of high-speed action and fierce rivalries.

Park owner, Oteng Masedi, confirmed that preparations are in full swing with vendors securing stalls and horse registrations rolling in fast. “We have started and the response has been good so far. Horse owners have commenced the registration process. We are expecting good competition locally from Motokwe, Gantsi, Letlhakeng, Maun, Sehithwa, and other areas, as well as horses from other countries. I can confirm that some competitors will be coming from South Africa and certainly Namibia, and we are yet to get confirmation of registration from Lesotho and other countries.”

Masedi revealed that his team will be campaigning for more entries from Lesotho, where a similar competition will be held next week. “Unfortunately, we will not be able to send our horses to compete in Lesotho due to financial constraints. Although we are a registered sports code with Botswana National Sport Council (BNSC), the government has not been able to sponsor us due to lack of funds, so we won’t be able to honor Lesotho’s invitation, and we are only praying that they will be able to honor ours.”

By Tuesday this week, the competition organizers were yet to seal a sponsorship deal with the Easter Cup sponsors.

The event, according to Masedi, promises an electrifying atmosphere, uniting top jockeys, horse owners, businesses, and spectators nationwide and beyond. “It is an open invitation to all horse owners to compete on a meticulously prepared track and showcase the speed, skill, and endurance of their horses. Masa Park has a fully serviced 1,600-meter racing course which meets all professional horse racing standards, and it also offers a clear view for spectators as well, where they get to see the race from beginning to end.”

Tickets are yet to go on sale.
