The President holidays got off to a bloody start in Mahlapaye following the brutal murder of Ookeditse Manyaapelo.
The 31-year-old’s dead body was discovered near Botswana Railways grounds at around 03:00 hours on Saturday morning by a late-night reveller making their way home.
The boys in blue have since arrested two men in connection with the killing: Festus Kapazu, 33, who was nabbed on Sunday, and Odiseng Kahitira, 28, who was tracked down in White City ward on Tuesday.
Dragged before Mahalapye Magistrates Court on Wednesday, the duo were charged with murder and remanded in custody.
Court stressed the need for state to gather witnesses, noting tempers in the community remain dangerously high, especially in Herero ward, where the slain man lived.
In a brief interview with The Voice, Mahalapye Station Commander, Meshack Ranku, said the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
“The deceased was stabbed with a sharp object and was rushed to Mahalapye Hospital, where he was certified dead upon arrival,” revealed Superintendent Ranku.
