In the latest suspected incident of Gender Based Violence (GBV) to stain Botswana’s already bloodied land a darker shade of red, a young woman’s corpse was found dumped on the outskirts of Tatisiding on Saturday morning.
Katlego Motswaiso’s body, which had several stab wounds, was discovered near the railway line in Gulubane ward by a passerby who then alerted others.
Investigations swiftly led to the arrest of her unemployed boyfriend, Emogang Sebolao, 27, who lives not far from where Motswaiso was found.
Arraigned before Francistown Magistrate Court on Wednesday, having spent the long weekend in a police cell, the baby-faced suspect looked lost and confused standing silently in the dock as the charge was read out.
Plea was reserved, with the Directorate of Public Prosecution, Ditshotlo Mpale telling court they only received the case that morning despite the killing taking place four days earlier.
“We pray for a period of 14 days to avail the Investigating Officer and also to put our house in order,” pleaded Mpale.
However, they were given just one day, Magistrate Thato Masonya postponing the matter to Thursday (24 July) when the IO is to avail himself.
Sebolao, meanwhile, was remanded in custody.
