Following an outrageous reaction by some disgruntled Zebras fans over Coach teenage Mpote’s decision to leave out some key players in his national team selection ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Libya, the coach today justified his decision at a press conference held at the Cresta Thapama Hotel in Francistown.
“Mothusi Cooper was withdrawn from the squad after arriving late for camp, Mpho Kgaswaane did not appear when called, Omaatla Kebatho has a toe injury, while other players Mosha Gaolaolwe and Tumisang Orebonye are on suspension,” the coach explained.
Mpote emphasized that, despite lagging behind in the Group J of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 qualifiers, they will give it their all to win tomorrow’s game.
He says this will boost their ranking and prepare them for subsequent competitions such as the 2025 AFCON, CHAN, and World Cup qualifiers.
Team Captain Thatayaone Dithokwe, said that the national team and supporters’ lack of unity is the reason for their poor performance.
Libyan Head Coach Hamdi Bataw indicated that several of their three important players, including their number one goalkeeper, will be unavailable due to injuries and that he anticipates a tough match against the Zebras.
