First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) Foundation has come to the rescue of the SOS Children Village in Tlokweng by donating food hampers and toiletries.

The SOS has been struggling to make ends meet after international donors pulled out, leading the village to look for alternative donors.

The bank, through its Foundation, answered the village’s cry by making some much-needed donations.

SOS National Director Motshwari Kitso has made an appeal to individuals to donate P1 per month to the SOS.

“Economically this year has not been good for us, annually we need P26million to take care of these children and per child, a sum of P3000 a month is needed. We really thank FNBB Foundation for this donation that they have made and the good relationship we have had with them over the past 25 years,” said Kitso.

Most donors have shifted their attention to the government’s Covid-19 relief fund, so SOS was grateful that FNBB had decided to share the little they had with the children’s village.

“Ever since the beginning of this pandemic, companies that used to donate to us were unable to do so as they had to donate to the government to fight the virus. This meant they had nothing to give back to us,” said the Foundation Manager, Onkemetse Montsheki.

The bank’s Foundation has been a key partner to the SOS ever since it was started in 2001 where FNBB took a decision to give back 1 percent of the company’s profits to charity.

Kgosi Taukobong Kgosimore of Tlokweng thanked the donors for their good gesture, noting that it will go a long way in making sure the children live a dignified life.

“It is a good initiative that the children will now be integrated to live a normal life like other children. Our tribal court has always made sure that these children get disciplined when reported to be misbehaving and sneaking out of their restricted areas,” said Kgosimore.
