Road accident claims life at Khawa

A 35-year-old man died on the spot after losing control of his car along the dirt roads near Khawa on Sunday evening.

The tragedy happened at around 5pm, some 30km from the village of Khawa, where the deceased, who is from Omaweneno, had attended the Dune Challenge and Festival.

His Toyota double cab is said to have veered off the road and overturned, causing his immediate death.

While the driver sadly perished, all eight passengers survived, with three hospitilised and the other five treated and discharged.

“One passenger was referred to Princess Marina Hospital with injuries on the chest and fracture on the arm. Two are admitted in Tsabong Primary Hospital both having sustained fractured arms,” revealed Middlepits Station Commander, Kebadire Mmopi, adding this is the second year in a row a Khawa festival-goer has died in a fatal car accident.

“Drivers need to be vigilant when using the dusty, bumpy, curvy Khawa gravel road,” advised Superintendent Mmopi.

In more grim news from the festival, which took place from 27 to 29 June, police are investigating an alleged sexual attack from the event after a 24-year-old woman from Tsabong accused her ex of rape.

It is said the suspect, aged 25, dragged the victim to the bush in the early hours of Sunday morning, where he first assaulted and then raped her.

“She had some bruises on the face which she told us the suspect assaulted her. According to the victim they met at Khawa on Friday and greeted each other, whilst the suspect said they left together going to
the festival,” disclosed Mmopi, adding the accused, a Khuis native, claims they were still in a relationship while the complainant insists the affair ended ages ago.
