Undeterred by the spirits of the dead, a Tonota man stands accused of raping a young lady at the cemetery.
The suspect, 28-year-old Onkabetse Amantse Ntsiki is said to have struck on Saturday night, allegedly pouncing on his victim, aged 23, as she walked with her little sister in Lephane ward, sent on an errand by their parents.
Ntsiki, who was known to the sisters, reportedly dragged the complainant to the nearby cemetery.
Although the younger sibling rushed home to report the attack to their parents, by the time help arrived it was already too late, with the suspected rapist long gone, having satisfied his wicked sexual desires.
He was tracked down in Francistown, some 30km away, the following day and arrested.
Hauled before Francistown Magistrates Court on Tuesday, it was revealed Ntsiki has history.
“The accused person has another pending case of intimidation before the customary court against his girlfriend. We are still collecting the statements from the possible witnesses so we fear that if he is granted bail he might interfere with the investigations,” disclosed State Prosecutor, Paphidzo Kuda when securing the suspect’s remand.
Due back in court on 3 March, Ntsiki will remain locked up until then.
