UB boxer wins big at the 42nd Botswana Sport Awards

SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR: Lethabo Modukanele

The 42nd Botswana Sport Awards which were held on the 13th August 2023 at Baisago University Convention Centre saw University of Botswana Boxing Club Boxer Lethabo Modukanele winning the prestigious Sportswoman of the Year award. Modukanele was nominated alongside Tsaone Sebele of Athletics and Centy Kgosikoma of Karate.

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Bronze medallist, Best Female Boxer at the recent BoBA awards, minimum weight category (48kg) boxer, was awarded for her hard work, persistence, determination, patience, commitment, and resilience’

UB Boxing Club and the Department of Sports Culture and Recreation are very proud of Modukanele’s achievements. The club recognises the unwavering role of the Department of Sports, Culture and Recreation (custodians of UB Sport), without whom the club and individuals’ ambitions falter. Through the Department of Sports, Culture, and Recreation, Mmadikolo continues to play a notable role in Botswana boxing and other sports.

The Club Administrators and athletes congratulate Modukanele on her achievement – SHEEARNED the award, she has earned her stripes. The Club Administrators also recognise the significant contribution of club Head Coach – Olympian, Commonwealth Games silver medallist, and UB Alumnus Lechedzani Master Luza who has been coaching Modukanele since her first day in boxing. Our boxers continue to depend on Luza’s volunteerism.
