Although he is only 23 years old, on Sunday morning, for the second time in his young life, Aobakwe Basekwang was arrested for murder.

Currently out on bail awaiting trial for a rape and murder he allegedly committed in December 2020 as an 18-year-old, the Molepolole native is accused of killing a man at Bra J’s Bar on Saturday night.

It is said he stabbed the victim, aged 25, in the chest with a knife following a ‘misunderstanding’ earlier in the evening before fleeing the drinking spot in Magokotswane ward.

He was tracked down and detained early the following morning, by which time the victim had already died of his wounds.

Charged with murder, Basekwang was arraigned before court on Monday; it is a place he knows all too well.

Nearly five years ago, the Difetlhamolelo ward resident, along with co-accused, Mogorosi Vincent Korae, 40, were charged with the rape, robbery and murder of 27-year-old Kesaobaka Ama Segari.

Acting jointly, the duo are said to have made away with a gold Techno R6 cellphone, valued at P900, during the deadly robbery.

After a three-day search, Segari’s badly decomposed body was found in a ditch on 31 December 2020.

A Strategic Management intern at Kweneng District Council, Segari was buried the very next day (New Year’s Day 2021) at Gamodubu village.
