Sliced open with a spade

BANGED UP: Khuduga

Lady in critical condition after horror attack

In yet another case of a lover’s tiff ending in a bloody showdown, a young woman is in a hospital bed while her boyfriend rots in a prison cell.

Charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, Lesego Khuduga, 32, is accused of slicing his baby mama, Keneilwe Saulo’s head open with a spade on Sunday.

The young couple, who have a nine-month old baby together, reportedly had a ‘misunderstanding’, although it is not yet clear exactly what the problem was.

The matter is said to have been reported to the police by a concerned nurse from Scottish Livingstone Hospital, who tipped off the cops shortly after Khuduga arrived with Saulo, 32.

With the patient unconscious and sporting a deep cut to her forehead, it seems the nurse suspected it could be a case of Gender-Based Violence and so alerted the boys in blue.

Saulo was then transferred to Princess Marina Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

After receiving the call, the police reportedly recovered the blood stained spade from Khuduga’s bedroom, dumped on top of his bed.

Pleading with Molepolole Magistrate Court not to let the suspect go, the Prosecutor, Sub Inspector Maureen Segokgo was quick to highlight the severity of the crime.

She pointed out the charge could well be upgraded to grievous bodily harm at the next court sitting as the victim is still hospitalised and seriously injured.

Segokgo further revealed the prosecution are yet to record the victim’s statement as she was unable to speak.

Disputing this, a frustrated Khuduga insisted Saulo was conscious and speaking at the time of his arrest.

“She never mentioned my names. She told the police what had transpired and they said they will also record my statement, as for now they have never recorded my statement!” argued the Molepolole man during his arraignment this Wednesday.

Asking not to be locked up so that he can look after his child, Khuduga begged, “May I be released on bail? I have a 9-months-old baby with the victim that I am taking care of, since the mother is hospitalised I am the one responsible!”

The answer was no, however, and the Lephaleng ward native was remanded in custody until his next court date, set for 1 December.
