“Please be reminded that SADCAS will undertake periodic surveillance assessments to ensure continued compliance with the requirements during the validity of the certificate. Let me remind you that SADCAS will not hesitate to suspend or withdraw the accreditation should SLH laboratory fail to maintain its accreditation, including failure to pay accreditation fees,” Mutusa said.

However, Deputy Chief of Mission US Embassy Botswana, Amanda Jacobson highlighted that since 2002, the MOH through support from the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has been embarking on a progress towards certifying the quality of the testing provided by public health laboratories through the development of clinical laboratory, quality infrastructure and certification.

It was also revealed during the event that some of the local laboratories that have also shown interest in accreditation include Mahalapye, Palapye and Letsholathebe Hospital in Maun.

SLH Laboratory Manager, Peggy Sechele appreciated the certificate as it shall forever remain a reminder of the hard work they put in place in order to attain the accreditation.
