A remorseful young mother who was in court for child negligence cried helplessly as she tried to convince the court that she had left the baby alone to go and look for food.
Oratile Ramochotlhwane, 23, is said to have left her one-year-old baby alone inside the house at Molepolole, Bokalaka ward on March 22nd, 2022.
According to the facts read before Molepolole Magistrate Courts this week, a Social Welfare Officer, Batlhalefang Pitso, received a call from one Tiny Kooreme reporting her neighbor, Ramochotlhwane for leaving her baby alone and unattended inside the house.
Pitso rushed to the place and found Kooreme bathing the baby who had soiled herself.
The social worker then took over the care of the baby while the matter was reported to the police.
A search was launched and she was found sitting in a car with some male friends.
She told the police that she had left the child under the care of her siblings to look for money to buy grocery for both the child and her siblings because she was the breadwinner.
The remorseful young woman further told the court that she knew it was wrong to leave the baby alone but she had to go out to feed the family.

She will be back in court on June 23rd, 2022, to set trial date.
