ACCUSED: Boitshwarelo Supang (R)

In a rare twist to the normal Gender-Based Violence (GBV) that haunts the country, a young woman is accused of stabbing her ex-boyfriend in his sleep, before biting off the startled man’s lower lip!

Apparently unable to handle being dumped, 34-year-old Boitshwarelo Supang is said to have exacted a cold, calculated revenge on her former lover, Albert Kgothang, 38.

Although the wounded man is still undergoing medical check-ups, with the extent of the damage to his mouth undetermined, Supang was granted bail by Molepolole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (November 19, 2024).

Charged with unlawful wounding, while she left the courtroom smiling brightly this week, the Khudumelapye village woman faces a possible seven-year jail term if found guilty.

The drama dates back to 5th October, when the suspect informed Kgothang she was coming to the cattlepost, where he worked as a herdboy, to collect her clothes since he had called time on their relationship.

However, instead of leaving with her things immediately, Supang stayed for three nights, reportedly showing no signs of frustration.

The peace continued until 8th October, when the alleged man-biter prepared supper for Kgothang.

“After finishing the food, the man went to sleep, leaving Supang at the fire place. While sleeping, he was awoken by a sharp stab on the right cheek; to his surprise, he rose to find Supang holding a knife. While trying to escape, she stabbed him again on the shoulder,” stated a source, adding it’s not clear what prompted her violent mood swing.

In the commotion that followed, Kgothang is said to have grabbed the knife from his attacker and thrown it away.

Still drowsy and weakened by his stab wounds, the complainant was overpowered by Supang, who allegedly pinned him to the ground before ripping off his lip with her teeth.

Enraged and in severe pain, Kgothang fought back, beating off his ex before fleeing into the night.

The matter was eventually reported to the police, who took the bleeding man to the clinic where he was referred to Scottish Livingstone Hospital and discharged the following day (9th October).
