WALKING OFF: Students

A group of DDT College of Medicine Physiotherapy graduates walked out of a competency check exam at the University of Botswana Auditorium on Thursday morning, citing concerns over transparency.

The disgruntled healthcare graduates, who are awaiting licensing, and had been preparing for the crucial exam, refused to participate, alleging that agreed-upon measures to ensure fairness were not implemented.

According to one of the graduates, Kago Mmapatsi, the students had previously reached an agreement with the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC) board that additional moderation would be provided during the exam to guarantee transparency. However, upon arriving at the venue, they were dismayed to find that the promised extra moderation was not in place.

“We were not satisfied with the arrangement,” said Mmapatsi in an interview with The Voice. The graduates, who had been looking forward to the opportunity to demonstrate their competence, walked out of the examination room in protest.
Mmapatsi explained that the students’ decision to boycott the exam was a direct response to the perceived lack of transparency in the process.
