Celeb edition with Prince Chopiro

Leungo Mokgwathi
ROYAL TALENT: Prince Chopiro

Look up multi-talented in the dictionary and it should come with a picture of Prince Chopiro!

At 23, the Ramokgwebana native is already a social media influencer, comedian, actor, musician and MC rolled into one.

As well as being a natural-born entertainer, Prince Chopiro has brains to boot.

The hard-working youth recently completed a Degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Sunderland, adding IT Technician to his long list of professions.

You’re quite the all rounder so I don’t really know where to start! I guess we can begin with your influence on social media – when you first started out on Facebook, did you anticipate such a huge following?

I created my Facebook account in 2017 while doing my Form 4 at Masunga Senior.

I was too busy with school and only gave social media time during the holidays.

If someone had told me that I would one day have over 100, 000 followers, I would have laughed in their face because the initial intention was never to grow this big.

And yet now you’re huge! So what does the term influencer mean to you?

To my knowledge an influencer is someone who makes an impact on different people with what he or she does: it might be with cooking, acting etc.

The masses fall in love with their content and decide to religiously follow them for more.

What’s it like having people pointing and staring at you in the street?

It is really affirming because it shows you that you’re making progress and that your work has meaning.

The downside is when people disrespect you or invade your privacy.

With such a hectic schedule, how did you ensure your grades didn’t suffer?

I have been a multi-tasker for as long as I can remember.

In Junior School, I did 10 subjects, played football, tried athletics, was part of the Drama club and SRC President but still did really well in school.

Now that you’ve graduated, what’s next for Prince Chopiro?

I am currently job hunting, so anyone looking for an IT Technician, I’m your guy!

Have you always been the class clown?

I would say so because my peers always laughed whenever I said something in class.

I got beaten a lot of times for making other kids laugh; it’s not a good thing to be a clown in class you know!

So it sounds! Who is the funniest comedian you know?

I would say Pompi aka Dinyanya, spompa banyana.

He is really funny!

He doesn’t even have to say anything to make you laugh, I promise you will burst into laughter just by looking at him.

Ever regret any of your jokes?

I never regret anything in life because whatever you do, you will always learn from it.

Even if you make mistakes, you learn from them and execute the joke better next time.

Let’s talk about your music – what’s your genre?

I don’t really have a genre, but I love Amapiano because it’s the trending thing at the moment.

That’s why my single ‘Get down’ is an Amapiano song.

It’s available on all digital platforms, please do listen to it.

Will do. Mention two people in the industry who have supported you.

I would say the two people that have been my biggest support in the industry would be Maatla Ephraim Basha and Penene Ponono.

Most people don’t know this, but Penene Ponono introduced me to the entertainment industry.

He showed me how to formulate concepts, execute them and even gave me connections to videographers such as Elkay Media and Enzo the Photographer, who shot my first viral video.

Things got even better when I met Maatla.

God gave me a big brother in him because he not only taught me a lot but had so much faith and believed in me when no one did.

He always gave me an opportunity to showcase my acting skills and showed me how to monetize my content and huge following.

I really appreciate them and everyone who contributed in getting me to where I am.

Celebrity crush?

I don’t think I have one at the moment, but a video vine with Palesa Natasha Kemonna and former Miss Botswana, Palesa Molefe wouldn’t hurt.

Five things people don’t know about you?

1. I am broke, I don’t have money; they should hire me to advertise their services and products at affordable prices
2. I am a great lover
3. I am a good football player
4. I am an IT expert
5. I have a beautiful girlfriend
